Today was the first day for this group at Modern Tea. Our first class, we took the bus over to the Victory Garden - cool but also not what the kids expected.
This crowd is a little older, the first class is always a little bit of a toss up we wonder as Charles truly starts acting out and complaining - Elokin is on the phone with someone and Alicia ends up handling it - and Charles comes back and involves himself - beautifully. We make tortillas and saute 3 different types of kale with garlic, and have a fruit salad. The blue corn tortillas don't quite work, but the kids eat them anyway. They love the kale - this is good! Darius says.

We are a cooking family.
Modern Cooks is a group of developing programs teaching our local youth about food and cooking. We are based at Modern Tea, a restaurant in Hayes Valley, San Francisco, California.
Our Core Values
· To be a full functioning, neighborhood restaurant. In order to teach children and serve the neighborhood, we need be real. And that is the beauty of it too. Restaurants are places to meet people, come together and enjoy food and drink, to have the moment become more than the sum of its parts. To share this with anyone is one of the truest joys in life.
· To offer different avenues of exposure dependent on the age group and the individual's needs. Our primary focus with these programs is just that- exposure to fresh grown food and ways to prepare it for enjoyment at the table.
· To work with the school system and other organizations but to remain independent. In that way we can work quickly, directly and supportively.
